The Story

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

We have been called many things, but one of our favourites is “bourbon storytellers”.

After a combined 50 years of working with spirits, especially American Whiskey, when we decided it was time to share our love of bourbon and rye with the world, the concept of stories and storytelling kept ringing in our ears.

There’s something about drinking bourbon that just seems to lead to sharing stories, be that sat at your favourite bar turning strangers into new friends, or at a family bbq hanging out with friends and family. It seems almost impossible not to end up telling stories, and as the bourbon goes down the stories get bigger, bolder and more outrageous.

Talking to Master Distillers and Master Blenders, and connecting with friends in the Whiskey industry, we couldn’t help but notice that in every conversation three things consistently happened.

To start with at every opportunity, in Kentucky at least, some glasses appear in front of you, the magical sound of a cork squeaking from the top of a bottle is heard, and whiskey is poured. It doesn’t seem to matter if it is a serious work conversation, or a catch up with an old friend, some good bourbon or rye is almost always a part of the conversation. Sharing memories and telling stories comes first, and eventually business gets done too… Well most of the time we get around to that part anyway.

The second thing that we noticed was that the phrase “the thing I love about this industry is the characters and their stories” just kept coming up. There’s something about the world of American Whiskey that seems to attract people with larger-than-life personalities, and the stories of “that time when old John was up on the roof, duck in one hand and a bottle of whiskey in the other…” seem inevitably to follow. The story of those amazing characters, is a key part of The Story Of bourbon.

Lastly we saw that whiskey seems to be the door opener for great conversations. There’s something about sharing a drink of bourbon or rye, no matter if it’s with close friends or strangers, that just invites the telling of tales. We feel pretty certain this has been happening for as long as humans have been drinking alcohol, and we consider it to be one of the pinnacles of human achievement. Sharing a drink, setting the world to rights, and maybe telling a few lies as the night goes on, and the whiskey goes down.

Needless to say, when it came to naming our Whiskey, we couldn’t think of anything better that The Story Of…

From sharing drinks, to telling tales, making new friends, and coming up with the best/worst ideas, or creating a night that will become a part of your own legend.

What better way to do it than with a bottle of your new favourite Whiskey, The Story Of…

THE STORY OF… CONSISTENTLY GOOD, CONSISTENTLY DIFFERENT.
